BCTA Participates in 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS)

In September 2024, the Bahamas-China Trade Association (BCTA) took part in the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) in Beijing, actively promoting the Bahamas and the wider Caribbean as emerging partners in tourism, offshore finance, education, and clean energy services. The event marked a significant milestone for deepening Sino-Bahamian service trade ties.

With the theme “Opening Leads Development, Cooperation Creates the Future,” this year’s CIFTIS attracted delegations from over 80 countries and regions. As an official participant for the first time, BCTA drew strong interest from Chinese government agencies, businesses, and international stakeholders.

During the fair, BCTA representatives held extensive discussions with Chinese enterprises and investment institutions, highlighting the Bahamas’ strengths in luxury tourism, fintech, renewable energy, and higher education. The Bahamas’ offshore financial system, stable legal environment, and international credibility were particularly emphasized.

BCTA also participated in thematic forums with multilateral organizations and Belt and Road partners, advocating for greater Caribbean-China service trade connectivity and regional cooperation. The Association announced plans for an upcoming “Caribbean-China Services Matching Week,” aiming to create direct channels for business engagement.

The participation in CIFTIS significantly enhanced BCTA’s visibility within China’s policy and business communities, laying a foundation for further bilateral and regional collaboration. Looking ahead, BCTA will continue to serve as a bridge, helping Chinese companies enter the Caribbean market while supporting Bahamian enterprises in expanding their presence in China’s growing service sectors.
